So job hunting has pretty much failed.

I tried my best to find a job here in Kansai. It started with non-tech positions, then I tried Project Manager and Senior backend engineer positions, then I tried even middle-level engineer positions, before finally trying full remote positions.

50 companies I applied to. Most rejected me without even a 1st interview. A few ghosted me. 1 company found me on a job board website and asked me to interview with them, and after 2 very successful interviews, they suddenly rejected me citing a lack of experience (despite my experience being laid out plainly in my CV, but never mind).

So let this be a lesson to any other foreigners looking for tech work in Japan: go to Tokyo. Your best bet of landing a job are there. If you don’t like Tokyo, deal with it. After gaining a couple years experience you should be able to move away and land a job somewhere else. But what’s crucial is that experience in Japan it seems.

I’ve got 2 more avenues to explore here in Kansai. Both geuninely exciting, both non-tech related, both hail Mary longshots. So we’ll see how those pan out.

I still want to escape tech, that hasn’t changed. And lately, I’ve been remembering the sage advice from people of my generation: YOLO: You Only Live Once. We’re only granted a brief time of consciousness in this mortal coil to reflect on our part in this cosmos, so why spend it miserable? Why not pursue something exhilarating, passion-enflaming, something that you can boast about with pride?

Maybe I can finally do that. I just hope my application succeeds. I haven’t had much, if any, success as of late. Even my credit card applications have all come up short.

So I’m due a bit of luck, right?
