Just One More Day

Just one more day
To see your face
Bright and golden in morning’s embrace
Smile wide panting pawing
A kiss or two when I see you

Just one more day
You roll in bed
Refuse to leave though I said
It’s time for walkies
OK, five more minutes of play

Just one more day
Walk the sunny bay
Ahead you lead
Flow to your every thought and deed
Every day a new path shown to me

Just one more day
Your heart grows weary
The medicine is strong
But kidneys weak
You start noticing the pills in your food

Just one more day
Is selfish to say
There’s no more we can do
You’ve given me all you can, so now
Unclip the lead

Just one more day
Just one more hug
Just one more kiss
Just one more, but no, nevermore

Under a golden moon I found you
The world made sense around you
And now cut are what bound you
Just one more day without you
